Matthew J. Borger

Partner | Litigation

Biography

Matthew J. Borger concentrates his practice in commercial litigation matters.  He represents regional and national businesses in all types of civil litigation in state and federal Courts. He represents client matters in real estate, commercial leasing, securities, environmental, employee and business disputes. Matthew is based in Klehr’s Philadelphia office but frequently travels to Manhattan to work on cases in New York’s southern district. Matthew is adept at studying complex legal situations, simplifying an intricate set of facts and making them relatable to various audiences. He prides himself on drilling down on difficult wrinkles in a case to uncover meaningful facts that are key to a case outcome.

Mr. Borger was recently successful on behalf of a securities clearing broker in a $3 million claim for indemnification against an introducing broker in NASD arbitration. Another significant settlement was secured five days before trial in a securities lending dispute between two broker-dealers in which his client recovered $23 million and other payments equaling 98% of total actual damages. Another recent success was a case that went before a State Human Rights Commission on behalf of a worldwide management consulting firm in an employment dispute.

Matthew has served on a number of special committees and boards of directors where he utilizes his area of expertise to counsel these organizations. In these instances, he has been called upon to research a set of facts and interview witnesses to determine the claims’ validity.

After law school, Matthew worked in New York State and in New York’s federal court. He grew up in Littleton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, and now lives in Malvern, PA with his wife and three daughters. In his spare time he enjoys coaching youth basketball, skiing and woodworking.
