Christopher J. Leavell

Associate | Bankruptcy & Restructuring

Biography

Christopher Leavell concentrates his practice in bankruptcy and litigation, dividing his time between Klehr’s Philadelphia and New Jersey offices. He routinely represents institutional lenders, bankruptcy trustees, floor plan lenders, pharmaceutical distributors, creditors’ committees and business organizations in bankruptcy proceedings, workouts, reorganizations and general litigation.

Christopher’s strengths include advocating persistently and effectively on behalf of his clients, mediating tense situations, meticulously attending to case details and relating to his clients in a personal manner. Having previously served as law clerk for the Honorable Bruce I. Fox, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Christopher often considers a case from the perspective of a judge, then formulates the best strategy for aggressively advancing his client’s interests.

Christopher was drawn to this area of the law following the historic financial crisis of 2008 and its resulting wave of large-scale bankruptcy filings.  While at Rutgers University School of Law, Christopher handled numerous pro bono consumer bankruptcy matters, and was deeply involved with the law school’s Children’s Justice Clinic. In 2012, he received the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Medal of Excellence. In that same year, he was a finalist at the annual Willem C. Vis Moot in International Commercial Arbitration in Hong Kong. He also served as Associate Managing Editor of the Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion.

Christopher grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia and was a serious classical musician, playing both violin and viola. Throughout high school and college, he participated in numerous competitions and music festivals and appeared as both a member and a soloist with a variety of orchestras and chamber ensembles. As an undergraduate, he studied viola performance at The Juilliard School. He currently resides in Princeton, New Jersey with his spouse and young daughter.
